The Kudu Project

The Kudu Project worked out a concept which includes the drilling of at least two wells producing 106 Mboe over 25 years, with a potential to scale up in line with future demand for gas. BW Offshore will provide an FPSO and the joint venture builds a gas export pipeline to shore. Here a 475 MW power plant serves the domestic and regional market. The full development of a local and clean resource like Kudu natural gas would provide significant environmental, social and financial benefits to Namibia and its people.

Namibia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would be 2% higher as a result of Kudu. Company tax, royalties and employee taxes would amount to some N$12 billion in state revenue over a 25-year period. Currently, Namibia pays N$3 billion annually in electricity imports. Kudu would have a significant impact on the national balance of payments. The construction phase would employ some 1150 people. During operation, the project will directly employ 60-70 people onshore, and the same number offshore.
